* Heroine Hunt in Kollywood

Kollywood is facing a major crisis. There is an acute shortage of ‘saleable’ heroines in the industry.

After Asin abdicated her Kollywood throne and went lock, stock and barrel to Bollywood, there is no real big star. Nayanthara, Trisha and Shriya were the first choice of top stars who now want a change and is trying to bring new glam girls like Anushka to K’wood.

Nayanthara after a string of flops in 2008 has been battling her personal problems and she is now concentrating more on Telugu cinema.

Trisha had her quota of films with the big heroes and now her focus is on the lucrative Telugu market and is also looking to conquer Mumbai. Reema Sen is adamant that she will sign her next film in Tamil only after the release of Aayirathil Oruvan and that too with a top hero. Shriya is not concentrating enough on her Kollywood assignments as her mind is still in Bollywood!

Among the new girls from Mumbai, Tamannaah is doing very well after the stupendous success of Ayan and Padikkathavan the two super hits of 2009 so far. But she is asking for a very high salary, which is making a lot of producers see red. Sameera Reddy is literally too tall for our heroes. It looks like the new sensation from Tollywood, Anushka will have a dream run as she gets paired with Vijay and Suriya this year.

Meenakshi, Lakshmi Rai, Sayali Bhagat, Bhavana, Sneha, Navya, Meera Jasmine, all come with an expiry date. The new breed of Mumbai girls who claim to have done some walk in roles in Hindi films or music videos, just cannot adjust to Kollywood style of working. The steady stream of new girls from Kerala can act but lacks glamour and style.

Our heroes are finding it difficult to get heroines who can perform at the same time have glamour and the oomph factor. Five big films with Dhanush, Jayam Ravi, Silambarassan, Jeeva, and Jai are waiting to get a proper heroine for their next project.
